The New Testament talks a lot about being humble:
Colossians 3:12 – Therefore, as God’s chosen people, holy and dearly loved, clothe yourselves with compassion, kindness, humility, gentleness and patience.
Ephesians 4:2 – Be completely humble and gentle; be patient, bearing with one another in love.
James 4:6 – But he gives us more grace. That is why Scripture says: “God opposes the proud but shows favor to the humble.”
Luke 14:11 – For all those who exalt themselves will be humbled, and those who humble themselves will be exalted.”
Given the routine nature of this expectation of humbleness, I wanted to issue a challenge to become more humble.
For just one week, in your conversations, do not talk about your achievements and do not defend yourself. My hope is that you’ll find two things.
One – You’ll be far more focused on what the other person is talking about.
Two – When you realize how much less you have to say, you may be surprised how much we talk about ourselves.
Let us know how it goes!
