God really hates pride and ego. Isaiah 10:12 states, “I will punish the king of Assyria for the willful pride of his heart and the haughty look in his eyes.”
Haughty isn’t a word that gets used much in our culture, so while I could figure it out in context, I looked it up. Here is the definition that comes up when I googled it…
“Someone who is haughty is arrogant and full of pride. When you’re haughty, you have a big attitude and act like you’re better than other people. A haughty person acts superior and looks down on others. Haughty people are disdainful, overbearing, prideful, swaggering, and obnoxious.”
God wants us to put our egos aside. We can’t truly be working for the good of the Kingdom if we are working for ourselves or if we are wrapped up in making ourselves look good. Pay attention to the times where you find a flash of pride or ego – put yourself on notice that that feeling is not of God and try to pivot to a feeling of gratitude toward God instead.
