A Look in the Mirror

A Look in the Mirror

We have finished 1 Samuel and have moved on to Isaiah in our ongoing bible study, and I noted something that I wanted to share that is a consistent, almost overwhelming theme throughout the Old Testament – that is, the ebs and flows of God’s people.

They fail to keep God in His rightful place over and over and over again. To the point where I can’t help but question them harshly – “What a bunch of idiots, how can they keep doing this over and over?”

It’s simple, they are human. As I cast stones at them in my own head, I’m reminded of my own sinfulness. It’s like looking straight into a mirror knowing my own shortcomings and how I screw up time and time again. We’ve all been there. Perhaps somebody reading this IS there right now trying to right the ship. If that’s you, consider this.

The Lord is waiting for you to turn around. Let’s look at what the prophet Isaiah states in chapter 1:16-18:

16 Wash and make yourselves clean. Take your evil deeds out of my sight; stop doing wrong. 17 Learn to do right; seek justice. Defend the oppressed. Take up the cause of the fatherless; plead the case of the widow. 18 “Come now, let us settle the matter,” says the Lord. “Though your sins are like scarlet, they shall be as white as snow; though they are red as crimson, they shall be like wool.”

God is waiting, practically begging, for you to turn around and come home to Him. Return to Him and remember Psalm 103:12, “as far as the east is from the west, so far has he removed our transgressions from us.” Find comfort in that.
